UGANDA
Uganda is also called the ‘Pearl of Africa’ and distinguishes itself with green and fertile land as well as thick, evergreen rainforests. In this country with its very sincere people you also find mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Other than participating in an unforgettable gorilla trekking, visiting breathtaking waterfalls or lakes are among the excursions that you could partake in.
Why Uganda
What to expect
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Both Uganda and Rwanda are the perfect destinations for gorilla trekking. Around 800 gorillas live in the midst of dense rain and bamboo forests and swampland in this cross border region. In Uganda, gorilla trekking takes place in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You go on exciting tours with your professional guides, who take you through the impenetrable rainforest and share their knowledge with you. It could take some time until you find the gorillas, but the time and effort is well worth it. The moments, when you face these impressive creatures are unforgettable.
Special information
A tour through Uganda enables you to get to know a very primal country. There is also the chance of having pleasant cultural encounters with the people, which are rarely possible in such a manner in other countries of the African continent.
Even though accommodation is rather basic compared to other countries in Southern and Eastern Africa, Uganda is still a fairly expensive country to travel. Based on our experience however, it is definitely worth it, as you gather unforgettable memories.
Did you know…
in Uganda etwa 90% der Bevölkerung von Ackerbau und Viehzucht leben? Eines der am Meisten angebauten Lebensmittel ist die Banane. about 90% of the population in Uganda earn their living from farming or cattle breeding? The food grown the most are bananas. There are more than 50 different kinds of bananas in East Africa alone. In Uganda, 50% of all the bananas planted are cooking bananas. Beer banana and desert bananas each comprise 25% of the total. Not only is the fruit used, but also the leaves, for example for weaving baskets or tiling roofs. Apart from bananas, coffee is also grown in abundance in Uganda and is their most important export good.
Insider’s Tip
If you plan on doing gorilla trekking, you should take into account that it takes place in an altitude of about 2.800 to 3.300 m. To make sure, you fully enjoy the encounter with these fascinating creatures, I recommend an additional acclimatisation day at Bwindi National Park, depending on your tour of course. I was truly impressed by the guided day trip from the north of Bwindi to its south. The hike leads through fascinating rainforest, so that you already get accustomed to the terrain. With the right guide you acquire a lot of additional information and with good planning even visit a fascinating market.
Tours
A stay in Uganda can absolutely be combined with a safari in Kenya or Tanzania. Should you want to concentrate on gorilla trekking, we do recommend experiencing the highlights of this activity with a combination of Uganda and Rwanda.
We gladly send you our latest tour samples for inspiration to discuss your individual expectations and are looking forward to being your professional partner for the organisation of your travel arrangement to Africa.
